It was 10am on a Saturday morning when we pulled up at a restaurant carpark, in our cramped vauxhall car with a cramped roofbox. We went into the restaurant and was told to wait for the owner to finish their breakfast before we could talk. So we patiently waited and then afterwards i was led to the owner of the restaurant and introduced myself. I was enthusiastic at first but soon had my fire put out by all the things i was told i couldn't do in the restaurant. I shoved all my own negative assumptions aside and proceeded to get my daughters to lift our decorations stuff from our small car into the restaurant. It was as if all eyes from the staff was on us at all times, just to make sure our equiptment did not damage any interior decorations and walls whilst on transit.
This was our first lesson on how the world system works and how some people will treat you,so don't take it personally. This was a common theme for us in every restaurants we decorated and its something you cannot change with other people's perspective on you. Anyways it took us six hours to fix the venue and get it ready for a birthday party. At the end of our decorations, the owner was impressed with the place and shortly the staff were offering us drinks and food and talking to us kindly. They even asked us to take a picture of the venue for their promotional ads. We were surprised at first with our sudden acceptance and welcoming attitude from the staff. A lesson we learnt is that people will always judge you at first, but with your hardwork and perseverence you can always prove them wrong.
As the party finished and we were driving home that night, the girls shared how we were not accepted at first on arrival and how difficult it was at first for us all. Then they said, dad we proved them wrong, didn't we, i said, yes girls, thats how the world will always treat us, but we have the power to prove them wrong all the time. A lesson that i believe that my kids have discovered together as a family. My youngest daughter then said, so its always our family against the world. So bottom line. Always aim for excellence in your areas of passion. The world and its system is created to bring you down but Gods will for you is always good and perfect and thats enough for you to know.
